As August winds to a close, the Edinburgh music scene prepares for a final flurry before its post-Festival Horlicks and a nap.

On Thursday 26th, Edinburgh Printmakers has a special evening of music (and print, we presume) at the Electric Circus – a cross-discipline evening as part of the Art Festival, entitled Instruments of Darkness.
Headlining are The Frankensteins – an act who number in their ranks Tommy Crooks and Steve Hanley in their ranks. The pair are ex-members of The Fall, and will be performing Fall tunes as well as original material. Also on the bill: Malcy Duff, El Search, Nob, Lee O’Connor and The District Nurse.

And, at the weekend (i.e. Saturday/Sunday) – it’s time for Retreat! (exclamation mark festival’s own).
It’s a 2-day festival taking place at Pilrig St. Paul’s (off Leith Walk), and among those appearing there’s:
Jesus H Foxx, Benni Hemm Hemm, Meursault, eagleowl, Withered Hand, The Douglas Firs, Wounded Knee… and there’s another nine of them. Full details, and a free download album featuring all the acts appearing, at www.retreatfestival.co.uk
