Jamie Gilroy, co-founder of the Wickerman Festival, has died in hospital following an incident on his farm believed to involve a firearm.

The 66-year-old farm owner was found at East Kirkcarswell on Thursday and was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries.

Police Scotland have said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The Wickerman has been held at Mr Gilroy’s farm at Dundrennan, near Kirkcudbright, for 13 years, having been started in 2001 when the festival’s former artistic director Sid Ambrose joined forces with Mr Gilroy to start a music event on the 120 acres of land usually used for grazing over 1000 cattle and sheep.

Just last Wednesday Mr Gilroy was at a Licensing Board meeting concerning next year’s festival.
