Wor_kspace release a debut single, ‘Weekend’.

Available to stream or download, the track is the work of Glasgow-based musician and producer, Finlay Macdonald.

Macdonald has previously been a member of BMX Bandits, Music And Movement, Speedboat, and Teenage Fanclub, as well as his own Lenzie Moss project, which has released one album to date.

The new material was recorded at Analogue Mountain, Macdonald’s tape-based, home studio. Wor_kspace is largely a solo effort, although ‘Weekend’ contains a vocal sample from Ray Macdonald, and bass by Alasdair Vann.

The single’s title is inspired by the 1980s band Weekend who featured members of Young Marble Giants. The songwriter relates how he had a VHS recording of the Anglo-Welsh act performing live on the earliest Channel 4 music show, ‘Whatever You Want’, presented by Keith Allen.

“It is also one of the few English words adopted into French,” Macdonald adds.

The musician also provides cover art for the release – inspired by houses in the Eastfield district of Cumbernauld, a couple of miles from where the film ‘Gregory’s Girl’ was filmed and set.
