Anyone wondering why Glasgow-based indie duo Algernon Doll had gone a bit quiet lately can ponder no more.
Ewan and Owen had been holed up in Chicago with recording legend Steve Albini, working on new material. To go with the new sound – still reliably noisy and hook-ridden but with that special Electrical Audio edge – they have added bassist Kenni from The Sinking Feeling to flesh out their already dynamic sound.

So, in their own words, here’s A Casual Introduction to WOMPS.

Wompslarge

Who?

I am Ewan and I sing and play guitar, Oj drums and Kenni basses.

When?

Almost a year now. Oj and I were in Algernon Doll together and wanted to start up this project. It’s been strange as we recorded an album before even playing show but since then it’s been pretty solid. We’ve already had so much interest and picked up support from big US press and our hero, Nardwuar, the Human Serviette.

Where?

“The dream was always running ahead of me. To catch up, to live for a moment in unison with it, that was the miracle.” – Anais Nin
We’re from Bathgate and Perth and met in Glasgow…

What?

We just write songs that we think have good melody and hooks. We listen to post-punk, pop, ambient and indie mainly and believe in recording things live and raw with no added effects or corrections. I guess that’s now a weird thing to do.

Why?

To put myself through college.

The band play Book Yer Ane Fest in Dundee’s Buskers on 27th November. 7″ single ‘Live A Little Less’ – the first taster from their 11-track Albini-produced long player – is out now.
