We’re a bit late with the gig recommendations this week, but as luck would have it, the great majority of this week’s top shows are at the weekend. On Saturday. So actually not so lucky if you’re wanting to see more than one show…

So, in Aberdeen, at Tunnels – Rod Jones and the Birthday Suit – the on-his-holidays Idlewild man and chums have shaken off illness and injury to hit the road (they’re also in Glasgow on Sunday at Tut’s).

Glasgow, Saturday – a genuine reason for counting this show as perhaps the one you should take in. Viva Stereo, are at Glasgow ABC2, in what is a bit of a one-off… the band are now scattered across the UK and this is a rare gig. Plus, support comes from Lonely Tourist, aka one Paul Tierney, formerly of Odeon Beat Club but himself now based in Bristol. Found are also on the bill, so well worth the effort.

Skinner is a name unfamiliar to most but turns out this ‘new’ act is actually Paul Skinner, of Hipsway and Cowboy Mouth fame (ask your dad). He’s at Dundee Doghouse, on Saturday. (more)

And in our one-night trawl around Scotland, Edinburgh’s Henry’s hosts Chris Devotion and the Expectations – with an album just out on the ever-reliable Armellodie label, probably worth a punt if you’re in the capital (or even if you’re not…)

Finally, Django Django are at Stereo in Glasgow on Sunday 19th. Another band with an album out getting great reviews, and, perhaps irrelevantly, a keyboardist related to a BAFTA-winning director. I’ll leave you to work out the details
