Tracyanne Campbell out of Camera Obscura has teamed up with Danny Coughlan to release a new single, ‘Home & Dry’.

The duo – billed as Tracyanne & Danny – have signed to Merge Records – the North Carolina label formed by Superchunk’s Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan.

A self-titled debut album will be released on May 25, with tours in the UK and North America to follow.

London-born Danny Coughlan is based in Bristol and operates under the name Crybaby, who supported Camera Obscura on some live shows after the pair were introduced by mutual friends in 2013.

The album was recorded at Edwyn Collins’ Clashnarrow studio in the Highlands. The former Orange Juice frontman co-produced the record along with engineer and multi-instrumentalist Sean Read (Dexys Midnight Runners).

Tracyanne describes the album as “melodic, musical, and murdery. It’s not a duet record. We’ve tried our best to marry our voices, songs, and melodies.”

Of the single, Tracyanne says: “It’s about the movement of time, the inevitability of things not staying the same”.

“Just when you think things are sorted and ok, something changes and they no longer are.”

The album is available to pre-order on CD, as well as a limited-edition opaque red vinyl edition which features a bonus 7-inch of non-album tracks ‘Baby’s Got It Bad’ b/w ‘Can’t Get Over You.’

The duo have the following UK tourdates planned:

May 28 Bristol, UK – The Lantern @ Colston Hall
May 29 London, UK – Oslo
May 31 Glasgow, UK – Saint Luke’s
