The Phantom Band release a special, limited vinyl edition of their classic debut ‘Checkmate Savage’ on its 10th anniversary.
Via its original label Chemikal Underground, the album comes on 180g double vinyl with MP3 download code and in a gatefold sleeve
The six-piece combo, led by Rick ‘Redbeard’ Anthony, garnered a critical reputation for being the top exponents of the mix of folk, Krautrock, and art-rock which may have been too difficult to pin down for the general public.
Produced by Paul Savage at Chem19 as well as in Franz Ferdinand’s Glasgow studio in Glasgow, the nine tracks are cut form the original masters, but, for the first time, spread over four sides of heavyweight vinyl – exactly 10 years on from the release date of the original album.
The Phantom Band went on to release three more albums on Chemikal Underground – The Wants (2010), Strange Friend (2014) and Fears Trending (2015) – while singer Anthony, under the name Rick Redbeard guise, has released two solo records on the label, No Selfish Heart (2013) and Awake Unto (2016).
The group has been on hiatus since the theft of their equipment while touring in Europe in October 2015.
