The Jasmine Minks release ‘Step by Step’ and ‘Gravity’, as a double A-side 7“ single, via A Turntable Friend Records, both digitally and on blue vinyl in cardboard sleeve.
The band, who formed in Aberdeen in 1983, now sport almost the same lineup when they became the first band to be signed to Creation Records a year later. Jim Shepherd, Martin Keena, Walter ‘Wattie’ Duncan, Tom Reid and former Television Personalities keyboardist Dave Musker recorded the new material together with producer Pat Collier at his Perry Vale Studios in London.
Having recorded classic songs ‘Think!’, ‘Cold Heart’ and ‘What’s Happening’ for Alan McGee’s label, the band garnered much radio airplay including on the John Peel show, and inspired the Manic Street Preachers who took their name from the Minks’ debut album ‘1234567 All Good Preachers Go To Heaven’.
They then disappeared from view in the late 1980s, but the original line-up reformed in 2011 for gigs and a new song, which was also included on the Cherry Red career-spanning 2-disc compilation ‘Cut Me Deep: The Anthology 1984-2014’.
This led to more new material being written, resulting in this release. “It was a moment of utter bliss when singer-guitarist Jim Shepherd confirmed that the single would be happening,” said Ulrich Hoffmann, owner of A Turntable Friend Records.
The band play the following dates – though there is a while to wait until we see them in Scotland!
20th April – The Islington, London
25th Oct – 13th Note, Glasgow
26th Oct – Krakatoa, Aberdeen
