New quartet The Gabriels release their debut single, ‘Loose Canyon’.
The download-only track is available through Bandcamp as well as Spotify, iTunes, AppleMusic etc.
The band include Stuart Gray, formerly of Falkirk / Bo’ness-based Fence Collective act Viva Stereo on keyboards, now based in England’s Midlands.
The band also feature Gudg (vocals), Fran Feely (bass), and Leon Jones (guitar), with John Bradbury drumming on the single, which also features backing vocals from Robyn Gibson from The Junipers and which was mastered by Ben Booker (The Fernweh/The Coral).
Gray also was part of drone/psych band Children of Leir, who released several singles and two albums, most recently their self-titled sophomore effort in 2015.
The other band members also have some musical pedigree – Gudg previously sang with Pallenberg, Fran previously played with Elefant Records act The Silver Factory, and Leon was in Blow Up Records band Alfa 9.
Of the single, Gudg explains: “The song is about escapism, this year more than any we’ve all probably felt the need to escape. As a band we love the 1960s Laurel Canyon Scene and would have loved to be have been part of it. It was a time where it felt like anything could happen both socially and musically and as a band it’s a big influence on us”.
