As we approach the big day (well, for those of us who can read a Mayan calendar properly) we’re into party season with a few shows in the run-up to Hogmanay.
Firstly, Dave Arcari – sorry ladies, he’s married – has, like many acts, a hometown show of sorts. He’s at the Corrina in Perth on Friday 29th.

And The Silencers play in Glasgow on the 29th – at Oran Mor. While at the other end of some spectrum or other, Mistake Pageant are also in town, at Pivo Pivo on Friday.

Big Country likewise are at their old stomping ground… actually, it was more like the Skids old stomping ground? Anyway, they’re at the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline on Saturday 30th.

So, this is where I try and figure out what local councils have dipped into their coffers to put on some sort of entertainment.

Say what you like about Embra, but they must have kept some cash back from the trams fiasco. The Maccabees, Admiral Fallow, Shooglenifty and Reverend & the Makers play the city’s Street Party, while Simple Minds in Princes Street Gardens with The View and Bwani Junction.

In Stirling – they have a castle as well, you know – it’s The Proclaimers, Bags of Rock, and local lads made good, Miniature Dinosaurs

In Glasgow, you can see in the bells at Monorail Pictish Trail, Randolph’s Leap and Kid Canaveral

Or at Stereo, you can catch Clocked Out, Aggi Doom, The Yawns and World Peace.

The Wee Dub’s Hogmanay is in Edinburgh, at The Caves and includes Radikal Guru, Riddim Tuffa ft. El Fata, Big Toes Hi-Fi Soundsystem, DJ Astroboy and a whole lot more.
