Shears releases a new single, ‘Ideas’
Available to stream or download, the track from the Edinburgh-based act is the third single to be taken from a forthcoming debut EP, ‘When You’re Around’, due out on 11 September.
Following up ‘Circle Line’ and ‘Just Like You’, ‘Ideas’ was recorded in Rebecca ‘Shears’ Shearing’s home studio with Glaswegian producer Dunt, before being mixed by Matty Green (Dua Lipa, Hurts, Lady Gaga).
Of the song, Shearing says: “Ideas is a conversation between two people. I wrote it after watching the documentary ‘Hot Girls Wanted’ which looks at young girls entering the sex trade in Miami.
“Although it’s the right job for some, I couldn’t stop thinking about the exploitation it uncovered and the difficulty it caused in maintaining personal relationships. It’s an argument between a young woman new to the industry and her close partner.”
Shearing moved to Edinburgh at 17 to study vocals at university, and has since played Scottish industry showcase events Wide Days and XpoNorth, as well as performing live sessions for BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal and ending 2019 in the List Magazine’s Hot 100.
The single also comes with a video filmed in the Pentlands at sunrise, which premiered on Shears’ own Youtube channel where she has built up a sizeable following. “The colours were amazing throughout,” she says of the results of the shoot. “I was running for my coat in between takes because it was freezing cold and I couldn’t feel my hands, but it was worth it.”
