Sha Rivari solo debut single ‘I Might As Well Crochet If I Cannot See Jon Spencer Play’.

The track is a self-confessed “over-the-top ode” to missing live gigs by Rivari’s favourite musician Jon Spencer (of bands such as The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Boss Hog and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers).

The “21st century one-man band from Edinburgh” is, Rivari explains, “in fact not a man but wants to express that this is the century of one-person bands that aren’t male-identifying.”

The “lockdown lament” stems from her punk band Coma Cat, like many bands, being unable to perform or even practise during lockdown.

Instead, the new self-recorded and produced single was born with just guitar, loop pedal and “various random objects to stomp on”.

Recorded at The Castle in Edinburgh between December 2020 and March 2021, the lead track does also include musical contributions – violin by Sara, drums by Soloman Haunt, clarinet by Leila Bright and, er, “cat sounds” by Stella.

The single – with two additional tracks – ‘Stuck’ and ‘With No One’ – is available on CD – limited to 9 copies with crocheted (obviously) sleeve – as well as a digital download, at sharivari.bandcamp.com.
