Warren Macintyre (of Starry Skies fame) plays a show at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on March 21st, to celebrate the songs of Nina Simone.

Belle and Sebastian’s Stevie Jackson joins on guitar and harmonica, and who is also acting as band leader for: Allen Chalmers (piano), Adam Scott (bass guitar), Iain Stoddard (drums) John Rooney (guitar), Therese Martin (harmony vocals) Heather Wellcoat (violin), Sophie Pragnell (viola), Jen McKee (cello) and JP Berrie (sax).

Macintyre also has a story to tell – Nina Simone played her final Glasgow show in 1994, in a big top tent on Glasgow Green (as part of Mayfest). The singer actually danced with Nina on stage at the show and is fairly sure that a couple of people took a picture of the dance. There’s an offer of free tickets to Saturday’s gig (and champagne!) to anyone who can supply said photo.

Full details on the gig are at www.glasgowconcerthalls.com.
