Right-ho, Scotland’s gig-goers, it is pretty much all about the weekend… apart from one show tonight. So get your big coats and your maps at the ready and head for Dundee where one of the more impressive singer-songwriters on the circuit at present, Michael Cassidy, is in Dundee tonight (Tuesday 12th). He’s at Non-zeros… no idea where or what that is but it might well be a club based in Dexters. Anyway, that’s what the gig guide tells me and who am I to argue?

So, skip to the end (of the week) – Bwani Junction are at the old stomping ground of Baby Tiger – Caledonian Backpackers on Friday 15th Feb which has in the past seen the likes of KT Tunstall, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and maybe King Creosote (memory’s a bit hazy on that one) grace its stage. BBC Radio 1’s Ally McCrae will be DJ for the night. Could be a busy one, though the shape of the place always meant that – assuming it’s in the same old bar – that you should be able to get tickets on the night; the only bad I can recall selling the place out were the Hazy Janes. But check local press for details (or the band’s Facebook page)

Back to Dundee (roads and snow permitting) and The Creeping Ivies‘ album launch – Beat Generator Live on Saturday 16. The album, ‘Stay Wild’, was originally released as a digital download but comes out on vinyl on the Cleveland based Dead Beat Records. Not actually sure what’s what support-wise but more here, doubtless – it’s put on by the rather fine Cool Cat Club.

Down the coast a bit, in the capital, still Saturday 16th – Randolph’s Leap, Snowgoose and Jo Mango are at the Queen’s Hall. Big show for the headliners as they launch their new single ‘News’but they’re apparently throwing a full brass section plus kitchen sink (probably aluminium rather than brass) at this one. The single’s from their forthcoming album (April or thereabouts) on Fence, so that should be enough to get the crowds along.

Frightened Rabbit’s former labelmates Paws are on a quick re-promotional tour for their current album = they’re at Glasgow’s Mono on Thursday, Aberdeen Tunnels on Fri 15th, Mad Hatters in Inverness on Saturday 16, then Edinburgh’s Wee Wed Bar on SUnday night.

Oh, this is our first non-Scots listing of the week (what this says I’m not sure, perhaps 4 acts in the top 10 album chart has scared everyone else away?)
Anyway, making the kind of mariachi-rooted sounds that are usually best left to the experts, Calexico play on Fri 15th at the O2 ABC in Glasgow.

Same night, same city, Unkle Bob aka Rick Webster and friends, ate relaunching the band and launching the new EP ‘Letters’, at Stereo

And Colonel Mustard & the Dijons are up on Sauchiehall Street, at Broadcast.

Finally, to Sunday (again, Paws we already mentioned) – sometime Nick Cave collaborator and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, founder Lydia Lunch is in Glasgow, at Stereo.
