Paper Rifles release their take on Ash’s 1997 single ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ as the latest of their ‘Lockdown Covers.
The seventh in the series of versions of some of the Edinburgh act’s favourite songs, it follows up their last release proper, the ‘Headstrong EP‘ from April, its four tracks still available to download with proceeds going to Health In Mind (www.health-in-mind.org.uk).
The band – Kevin, Jon, James and Kieran – have been taking turns to select tracks to record in lockdown, with the first song Ash recorded with guitarist Charlotte Hatherley the choice of Kev.
The track was originally written at the request of director Danny Boyle as the theme to the film of the same name starring Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz.
The band said of the tune: “Tim Wheeler was inspired by Robert Graves. Oh yes. It is – let’s face it, like ALL Ash songs – a cast iron pop banger. Who doesn’t love Ash? No-one, that’s who.”
The band – currently communicating and indeed producing their tracks via email- will hopefully commence work on their forthcoming second long-player ‘Traitor’s Hill’, due out later this year.
