It’s Oxjam week – Oxfam’s “month-long music festival” which largely concentrates itself in Scotland over the next couple of weeks.

In Edinburgh on Saturday 20 October at the Oxfam Music Shop in Stockbridge in the afternoon with a Takeover at the Oxfam Shop.
Then, evening shows at the Three Sisters and Cabaret Voltaire, with bands including People Places Maps, Letters and Six Storeys High. Also, on October 25 the Electric Circus has Matt Norris & the Moon, Cancel the Astronauts and Lady North (tickets here)

Glasgow has a DJ set from Hot Chip at the Oxfam Shop on Byres Road on October 12.
On the 19th Flat 0/1 has Johnny Foreigner, Playlounge, Pinact and Verse Metrics paying a house call.
There’s also Chasing Owls and We See Lights at Nice n Sleazy on the 27th. More here.

Aberdeen has a six-venue affair on Friday 19 October including Stanley, Velvet Audio, Indian Red Lopez and more

Dundee adopts the month-long ethic with “Charity Begins at Home II” which is more fully detailed here.

Shetland’s Takeover is at four venues on Saturday 20 October and Cumbernauld has an Oxjam night at my old stomping ground (seriously) the Burroughs Social Club on October 18.

In other gig news – well, with this missive being so near the weekend, there’s less than you might think. Though
Michael Marra‘s at Dunfermline Carnegie Hall on Saturday. Maybe he’ll do the one about Hamish McAlpine.
Apart from that, in Edinburgh, a mighty clash – Sparks are doing their ‘Unplugged’ thing at the Picturehouse, at around the same time as Frog Pocket plays the Banshee Labrynth. Ach, who knows, you might make both. Check venue for details.

And in Glasgow, on Saturday, Grizzly Bear are at the Barras. While in Paisley, more Carnivores – who are playing a homewtown show at The Bungalow (we, not that Bungalow, this is in Shuttle Street, though with that lot playing there must be some of the spirit of 77 still kicking around).
