Ovals release an album, entitled ‘Freedom of People and Ideas or Be Good to Yourself and Other Animals’.

Aside from one track ‘Isolation Apocalypso‘ released in March, it’s the debut solo release of Glasgow-based Matthew Black – formerly guitarist and drummer in Uncle John & Whitelock and Tut Vu Vu.

There are seven tracks on the release, all performed by Black, aside from ‘Chimes’ which has piano by Jamie Bolland and double bass by Dave Tunstall, as well as (yes) chimes by Agnieszka Religa (she also contributes ells and bowls to ‘Aga’).

The “solo sound experiment” was engineered by Geoff Allan at CaVa Sound – as was Uncle John & Whitelock’s ‘There Is Nothing Else album – and mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios.

The album is available digitally via Bandcamp , or on 12” vinyl at Monorail in Glasgow.

50% of album sales go to The Haven – a mental health charity, drop in centre and community cafe run by volunteers based in the Hilltown in Dundee.
