Nicky Murray releases a single, ‘It Is So’, his first new music of 2021

, and likely the second-last in a series of singles, following ‘Sisterhood of Man’.

Featuring guest harmonies from Glasgow-based singer Zoe Graham, Murray takes the lead vocal and plays synth on the track, which he also produced the track, which was then mastered by Chris Waite at Gran’s House Studio.

The Highlands-based musician has been writing and recording music for around eight years, with debut long-player ‘Plenty More Weeping’ being launched in 2014.

He then recorded several singles in 2017, leading to sophomore album ‘Wintermore’ in the autumn of 2018.

2019 was spent writing new music as well as gigging, and undertaking several collaborations, including two Scottish tours with songwriter and friend Moteh Parrott.

During lockdown Murray has continued teaching, and released a string of singles – ‘Atypical’ (about the Netflix show of the same name), followed by ‘Song for Sara’, written for the loss of a close friend.

A third single came in early September with an across-the-pond collaboration with Louise Bichan (Rachel Sermanni) and Ethan Setiawan (Darol Anger) with their single ‘Songbird’.

Over the years Murray (in several different outfits) has toured with or supported the likes of Martin Stephenson, JJ Gilmour, Elephant Sessions, Kathryn Joseph, Peatbog Faeries, Dave Sharp, Brittany & Natalie Haas, and Duncan Chisholm.

He is also ‘City Leader’ for Sofar Sounds (Inverness) organising live music shows every month.
