Mark Hex – yes, of mid-00s noisemongers Hex – has released an EP entitled ‘People Hate Glasgow’ – a retrospective of music made a decade ago in Glasgow.
The six tunes – ‘This is Glasgow!’, ‘Sorry (for nothing)’, ‘A Happy Death’, ‘What’s the Score?’, ‘Brutal Ballet’ and ‘Phobophobia’ – were recorded, “rough and ready”, between 2004 and 2006. Spanning around 20 minutes, they are, he says, “a document of those heady and hazy days where opportunities seemed limitless.”
They also intend to capture the basic production styles of Billy Bragg’s first two LPs, the minimal instrumentation of Suicide, combined with noisy guitars a la Big Black and Fugazi.
