Luke La Volpe releases a new EP, ‘Terribly Beautiful’.
The indie release, recorded completely from lockdown, contains ‘Dead Man’s Blues’ which has already topped the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart and which has also hit the top 10 of the main UK iTunes singles chart.
That lead track was written last year by the Bathgate musician with Paolo Nutini guitarist and co-writer Dave Nelson, and was produced, alongside ‘Familiar Bliss’, by ex-Prides man Lewis Gardiner in Glasgow.
The EP closes with the title track, which has its origins in the Sofathon Singalong online festivals in support of the Music Venue Trust’s #SaveOurVenues campaign.
Following the first all-day event on April 4th, La Volpe was contacted by The View’s Kyle Falconer, who had also performed a live set. He attached a recording of a few lines of a song he’d started and the message “I think you’d nail this”.
“I hadn’t decided on the third track for the EP before we all went into lockdown, so when everything went a bit crazy we put the idea on hold,” he says. “After Sofathon, I was blown away that Kyle wanted to work on a song together. The View were the first band I went to see live when I was thirteen and I’ve supported him a couple of times since, but I never expected to write with him.
La Volpe’s band then recorded parts individually along with Falconer’s guitarist Stevie Anderson, with Bristol-based producer Ali Chant assembling the finished product.
The EP also received a boost as Lewis Capaldi shared news of La Volpe’s EP to his 5.2 million instagram fans, alongside the news about his own live new EP, ‘To Tell The Truth I Can’t Believe We Got This Far’.
Proceeds of the title track ‘Terribly Beautiful’, co-written with Kyle Falconer out of The View, are being shared with NHS Lothian Covid 19 Appeal, Music Venue Trust #SaveOur Venues campaign and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy.
Luke La Volpe has a small number of shows lined up (hopefully) for later in the year:
