Late Fees release their debut single ‘I Bet’, as a Bandcamp download.
The track by the Glasgow trio – singer / songwriter and guitarist Andrew Gordon, Jack Mackenzie on drums and backing vocals, and bassist / backing vocalist Michael Hamilton – recorded the tune via ‘conference call’ across several timezones.
Although ‘I Bet’ was demoed in Glasgow at the start of 2019, recording took place during lockdown while Gordon was living and working in Japan – an ironic turn of events, the band say, given that the song’s lyrics reference being “on the other side of the world”.
Production was handled by Hamilton, who has also written and produced music for Glasgow-based poet Imogen Stirling and released a number of albums under his own name.
Mastering and additional mixing was then performed by Ross Cairns.
The accompanying video juxtaposes photographs and videos of Scotland and Japan taken by the band from their respective sides of the globe.
