Kerri Watt releases her debut studio album ‘Neptune’s Daughter’, via Cooking Vinyl.
Available online now on CD, cassette (via her official store), the Glaswegian musician’s debut long-player also also comes as a Deluxe Digital Edition with six bonus acoustic tracks.
Its dozen tracks include the five singles released so far; ‘Kissing Fools’, ‘Chasing Aeroplanes’, ‘Cut Me Loose’, ‘Jessie’, and ‘You Can’t Catch Me’.
‘Neptune’s Daughter’ was recorded in 2018 with Texas based producer Machine (Clutch, Lamb Of God, Fallout Boy), but delayed due to the pandemic.
“I loved the idea of joining forces with someone from a totally different genre to bring something unique to the sound,” Watt says of the recording process. “Machine and I spoke at length about the sound of the album, influences, bands/playlists/moods we liked and found we had a lot in common.”
Recorded with top session players in Austin, Texas, “the final result perfectly encapsulated the five weeks Machine and I spent experimenting and creating magic at his studio with some incredible Austin players!”, she adds.
“It feels like years of work and passion are coming to fruition and I’m finally getting to share a full body of work. There’s some really fun, light tracks mixed with darker moments, and scattered throughout are a few subtle references to some of my musical heroes that I’m hoping fans will have fun picking out! After years of experimenting with different sounds and ideas, I’ve written a piece that I hope will have something for every kind of person and be the positive start we all need for 2021.”
Although the album was put pack for obvious reasons, Watt was able to keep busy on the run-up to its release – playing a BBC 5LIVE Session for Laura Whitmore, a Mahogany / COVERS Session on YouTube, as well as, right before the pandemic took over, performing at Celtic Connections and Americana Fest.
Watt has also been livestreaming regularly including her own ‘Watt A Wonderful World’ show, which has been taking place every Wednesday at 7pm for over four months, and getting involved with causes such as Save Our Scottish Venues for the Music Venue Trust, and Takeover Fest for Nordoff Robbins.
Previously in 2019 she supported Keith Urban on his sellout London O2 show, as well as playing Country 2 Country Festival London, Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury, Kew The Music, British Summer Time, Introducing Nashville and support performances including at the Royal Albert Hall & The Palladium.
Fun fact: Rather than being “Neptune’s Daughter”, the singer-songwriter’s father is actually Neil Watt – a footballer who started his career at Celtic but was best known for, as a manager, guiding Stranraer to successive promotions in 2004 / 2005.
