Karine Polwart releases a new album, ‘Laws of Motion’, via Hudson Records.
The Banknock-raised songwriter’s seventh release is the follow-up to 2017’s ‘A Pocket of Wind Resistance’, which Polwart and co-writer Pippa Murphy turned into a theatre show.
The new album from the Singer of The Year at BBC Radio 2’s Folk Awards was recorded alongside long-term collaborators Inge Thomson (accordion) and brother Steven Polwart (guitars). Among the 10 tracks are several songs originally written with Martin Green out of Lau, and the release’s subject matter ranges from the refugee crisis while touching on World War II, the rise of Donald Trump and the threat of nuclear war, although more personal stories of her grandfather, and of a Clackmannanshire-based Japanese gardener are also covered.
