It’s largely all about Glasgow this week and not only because Celtic Connections is in full swing.

However, Kapil Seshasayee, plus Kettle of Kites, play Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s on Monday 27th – part of Indie Venue Week
In Glasgow, Kiwi Jr. are at The Hug and Pint.

Bombay Bicycle Club have risen to the stage where they can play the Glasgow Barrowland – twice, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another Celtic Connections show sees former Mercury Prize nominee Nitin Sawhney play the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow, Man of Moon are also in Glasgow, at the SWG3 Poetry Club, and Californian combo Giant Drag are at The Hug and Pint, while Oban rockers Midas Fall play Broadcast.

Bristol-based folkie Rachael Dadd plays The Glad Cafe on Glasgow’s leafy southside, and Cafolla (pictured – aka Federation of the Disco Pimp, pretty much) launch album ‘Cowboys & Africans’ at Òran Mór,

In Edinburgh, Dundee duo Beta Waves are at The Mash House while at Leith Depot there’s a punk rock triple-header, with Falkirk stalwarts The Media Whores, along with The Shan, plus local legends Shock And Awe. And Last Night From Glasgow signingsCloth are at Sneaky Pete’s.

Perhaps the biggest gig of the week is at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, as the Ivor Cutler tribute show and launch of album ‘Return to Y’Hup’ involves a massive including Citizen Bravo, Raymond Mcdonald, Stuart Braithwaite, and loads of others.

Another staple around thus time of year is the Big Burns Supper Festival in Dumfries, where another Scots bard is paid tribute to, by Hue and Cry plus Turin Brakes.

On Thursday, Isobel Campbell returns after a long hiatus, launching her new album at the Mackintosh Church at Glasgow’s Queen’s Cross (just beside Firhill), while in the city centre, at Glasgow’s G2 (round the back of the Garage), Wire launch their new album, ‘Mind Hive’.

In Edinburgh, former Shack frontman Michael Head, & The Red Elastic Band, play Summerhall, while another Celtic Connections special sees Beerjacket play the CCA, accompanied by a mini-orchestra in the shape of The Cairn String Quartet.

Summerhall has The Ninth Wave on Friday night, and another Edinburgh show is Carla J Easton who plays Sneaky Pete’s.

And a fundraiser in aid of Save Leith Walk sees Chuchoter, Midi Paul and Deadloch play Leith Depot on Friday night.

New Triassic Tusk signings Check Masses are at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms, punting their new single ‘Dripn Angel’, while across the water, local trio Messed Up Youth play P.J. Molloy’s in Dunfermline.

On Saturday night, Beta Waves visit The Hunter S Thompson in Dundee, while along the road, Catholic Action are at Beat Generator, trailing their forthcoming album ‘Celebrated By Strangers’.

Edinburgh has a treat in the form of Half Formed Things, who are at the Voodoo Rooms, and in Coatbridge, former Silencers mainman J.J. Gilmour is at the Listening Room, at the town’s Georgian Hotel, and there’s another Indie Venue Week show, with Cheap Teeth at Sneaky Pete’s.

In Glasgow, Field Music are at Kelvingrove Art Gallery, performing music from their new post-WWI themed concept album ‘Making a New World’, while at The Hug and Pint, Memes, plus Pleasure Heads.

Same evening, out in Milton of Buchanan, at the Buchanan Memorial Hall, Dave Arcari.

Finally, on Sunday, The Just Joans give their ‘Private Memoirs and Confessions’ a bit of an airing at Glasgow’s Flying Duck, and at Easterhouse’s Platform, the current project of virtuoso percussionist and composer Alex Neilson, Alex Rex.
And another Celtic Connections show, Man of the Minch helming a multi-band event, ‘Bogha-frois: LGBT+ Voices in Folk’ at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
