A lull, of sorts, before Edinburgh Festival kicks off.

But it’s a busy weekend of music – on Thursday 4th Madness start two nights at the Corn Exchange.

Thursday Bellarum kicks off – all sold out, with Madness (again), Super Furry Animals, Wilco Johnson, Astrid and C Duncan al on the lineup.

On Friday 5th, Man of Moon follow up their Radio Scotland session with a gig at the Electric Circus.

First of a series of August Friday night shows atThe Famous Grouse House (George Street) takes pace on the 5th – with headliners, electronic pop rock band, DMS. The following three Fridays are similarly headed up by winners in the recent ‘Famous Fridays’ competition via the whisky brand – on the 12th, psychedelic pop band, The Mink Stoles; Friday 19th has acoustic Americana singer-songwriter, Adriana Spina, and the final night, the 26th, sees indie pop singer-songwriter, Lou Mclean top of the bill.

And in Glasgow, at Kelvingrove Bandstand, Idlewild.

In Annan on Friday at the Station House – We Came We Conquered. Don’t have much info on them to be honest, but a band, in Annan, is probably all you need to know…

Glenrothes’ finest Sergeant are back, playing at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline on Friday 5th. And From The Jam with Bruce Foxton is there the following night.

Kathryn Joseph is in Edinburgh, at Summerhall on Saturday 6th. In Glasgow, Manc post-punk legends. Chameleons Vox. And at Sleazy’s, Roman Nose.

Finally, Lloyd Cole plays Kelvingrove on Sunday.
