In Edinburgh this week it’s all about the Electric Circus and its Electric Nights programme. Among the attractions: Meursault and RM Hubbert on Monday 16th, and Skinny Dipper and Rachel Sermanni following on the Tuesday (Rachel’s exhibiting her artwork, not sure if she’s doing a set or not!).
In Glasgow on Tuesday a clash of styles, sadly not on the same bill. Country legend Dolly Parton is at the Hydro, while at the other end of the chirpiness spectrum, Eels play the RCH. And somewhere inbetween, Reverieme are at the 13th Note.
Must confess that there’s something goiong on in Glasgow this week but i’m not sure what. Whatever it is brings Rab Noakes to Webster’s Theatre on Wednesday.
Meursault head west on Thursday 19th, to Oran Mor and on Friday 20th Lau are at Stathpeffer Pavilion.
This weekend, the biggest event is the Solas Festival, at The Bield at Blackruthven, near Perth. We Were Promised Jetpacks headline the Saturday night, while The Music Tapes (a Neutral Milk Hotel side-project), Karine Polwart and Rick Redbeard mix with literary figures such as Liz Lochhead, and Louise Welsh.
On Saturday in Glasgow, at Websters Theatre again (still not sure where it is) another folk legend – Dick Gaughan.
And by way of contrast, flavour of the month Parquet Courts are at SWG3.
On Saturday in Aberdeen, Idlewild are at the AECC while in Edinburgh, two rather conflicting shows – Last Battle at Sofi’s Bar, while Penfold play Opium.
Finally, on Sunday Pumajaw are at Edinburgh’s Summerhall – ‘Song Noir – the Director’s Cut’, based on last year’s Edinburgh Fringe show.
