Idlewild release their eighth studio album ‘Interview Music’, via Empty Words.
Including singles ‘Dream Variations’ and ‘Same Things Twice’, it’s the first new material from the five-piece since 2015’s ‘Everything Ever Written’.
That top 20 hit long-player saw new members Luciano Rossi and Andrew Mitchell come on board, joining Roddy Woomble, guitarist Rod Jones and drummer Colin Newton and starting work on what would eventually become ‘Interview Music’.
However, it took a couple more years until they would reconvene at Rod Jones’ Edinburgh studio to finish off the record begun in Los Angeles in 2016. “A lot of the songs are about dreams and dreaming and the thoughts and ideas that come from this state,” says Woomble. I live in the Scottish Highlands, and between there and California you’ve got two locations that can put you in a dream like state – driving down Sunset Boulevard as the sun sets or driving over the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula as the sun rises. The world seems unreal, magical. You’re dreaming through a landscape.”
The new album was finally completed with the assistance of Dave Eringa, who originally produced ‘100 Broken Windows’ and who as well as working on five new album songs, also “brought a focus back to the band, and actually made us finish it!”, according to Woomble “He made it sound like us.”
