Edinburgh band Half Formed Things release their debut album, ‘To Live in the Flicker’.

The independently-released ten-tracker is available on specially-mastered heavyweight vinyl and limited-edition CD as well as a download.

The quartet – Matthew Bakewell (guitar/voice), Morgan Hosking (piano/voice), Nici Hosking (percussion/voice) and Edwin McLachlan (drums) – launch the album at Edinburgh Art College’s Wee Red Bar (where the band played their first ever show in 2016) with Gaze Is Ghost as support.

That’s followed by a show at Glasgow’s Flying Moon Festival on June 15th, and a full UK tour to follow in late 2019 / early 2020).

Recorded over the space of a year, the album was produced and engineered by the band, in Hosking and McLachlan’s shared flat in Leith.

The album features guest appearances from Alex Sharples of Pronto Mama / Fat Suit on trumpet for closing track ‘The Calm’, and Ciara Webb on violin and viola on ‘Pendulum’ and ‘Spirit and the Dust’.

“Eighties experimental pop, particularly Kate Bush and Talk Talk, was an enormous influence on this record, as well as more contemporary artists like Fiona Apple and Grizzly Bear who, in my eyes, continue in that fearless creative tradition”, says drummer McLachlan, who engineered and mixed the album.
