Ok, you have a free night, so brace yourselves for a busy run into the weekend…

On Wednesday 11th Echo and the Bunnymen – featuring the only man that Rik from the Young Ones would trust with his vote – play Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall.
And in Glasgow, in some might say implausible surroundings, Carnivores are at the Hard Rock Cafe. Wonder if they’re donating a guitar, or a post-gig T-shirt?

Festival season (Scottish, outdoor division) kicks off with the Eden fest at Raehills Meadows in Moffat, from Thu 12th – Sun 15th. De La Soul, Bez and Mungo’s Hi-fi among the headliners. www.edenfestival.co.uk

In Edinburgh on Thursday, in one of those unfortunate gig clashes usually associated with festivals, Dundonian indiepop trio Model Aeroplanes play the Electric Circus. And local four-piece Deer Lake are at Sneaky Pete’s – they’re also at the Beresford in Glasgow on Friday and Mad Hatters Inverness on Saturday.

Beerjacket celebrates 10 years, not in the biz, but trading under that name (regular / older readers will recall Pete Kelly’s previous teenage incarnations in bands such as Pupkin).
Same night at Glasgow’s Tut’s on Thursday 12th revived original punks 999 are at Glasgow’s Ivory Blacks – they play the Windsor Hotel in Kirkcaldy the following night.

In Glasgow on Fri 13th The Hazey Janes celebrate their new album for Armellodie Records – they’re at Broadcast.

Distant Voices is one of those collaborative projects but what makes this one a little, er, different, is that the songs were written in prisons. Featuring Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow), Kim Edgar (The Burns Unit), Lucy Cathcart Froden (Tall Tales), Andrew Howie (Calamateur), Yvonne Lyon, Rachel Sermanni and friends, it’s on Friday 13th at The Briggait, in Glasgow, tickets here.

Remember the BIG Project Youth Choir from previous gig recommendations? Following shows with the likes of King Creosote and Karine Polwart, the kids’ singing ensemble from Broomhouse perform alongside the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra as part of an STV Appeal at the Usher Hall on Saturday 14th June.

On Saturday 14th, Television perform Marquee Moon at Glasgow’s ABC – that’s Tom Verlaine, Billy Ficca and Fred Smith, but with Jimmy Rip rather than Richard Lloyd (or Richard Hell, come to that).

On Sunday, the 15th Fifer Dan Lyth brings his Euphrates to Reekie for the launch of his Armellodie Records album, with a show at the Voodoo Rooms. Same town, different place – Deathcats are at the Cabaret Voltaire.

And on Sunday, Edwyn Collins makes a welcome return to Oran Mor. Don’t believe he has any spanking new material to air, though that shouldn’t put you off. Although if it’s new album pluggage you’re after, then All Hail Deathcats is the cry as the Glasgow trio of that name (er, Deathcats, without the ‘Hail’ bit) play Broadcast.
