This week… it’s all about Teenage Fanclub. And they start, like, now (or in 1991 to be more accurate). The Scottish indie legends play three nights at Glasgow’s Barrowland, showcasing segments of their career on the Creation label. So tonight they will play selections from ‘Bandwagonesque’ and ‘Thirteen’.

That’s a sellout, so a reasonable replacement might be Aidan Moffat and RM Hubbert, who are at Perth Theatre.

The twosome are in Aberdeen the following night – at the Lemon Tree, and in that venue the following evening, Highland rock quartet Tide lines.
And, you will know them by the trail of drummers – Paul Quinn will therefore step behind the stool (left there by Brendan O’Hare) for the Grand Prix / Songs from Northern Britain part of the TFC trilogy

You’ll note that Edinburgh hasn’t figured in this week’s must-see gig list, but fear not – Howard Jones plays The Queen’s Hall on Wednesday night. Or, the Fanclub at the Barras features ‘Howdy’ plus all the odds’n’sods (singles, b-sides etc) not already covered in great detail.

Thursday night sees some hoary old punks in the shape of 999 visit Ivory Blacks in Glasgow, while at Stereo, Scots-Ghanaian hip-hopper Kobi Onyame.

Also in Glasgow, Catholic Action are at McChuill’s, and Static Union play the Old Hairdressers.

Aberdeen gets another treat on Friday night as Slam visit The Tunnels, and hurrah,Edinburgh is not forgotten this weekend as Long Distance give recent-ish single ‘Violent Type’ another push at Leith Depot.

This weekend Aberfeldy Festival 2018 takes place in the Town Hall. Among the attractions included are Spook School, Star Wheel Press, Carla J Easton, Life Model, and Jamie Sutherland out of Broken Records.

Also on Friday, eagleowl offshoot Our Ladies of Sorrow do their once-a-year Hallowe’en thing at Edinburgh’s Banshee Labyrinth, while in Glasgow the equally scary Tom Hingley & The Kar-Pets will maybe even dust down some Inspiral Carpets classics, at the Record Factory.

At Glasgow Queen Margaret Union on Friday, is thus music? Album of the Year winner Marnie arrives, but as part of band Ladytron, with Bossy Love in support, while Fatherson play the Barrowland.

On Saturday, Aberdeen again has the pick of the gigs – Free Love, Apostille and Autumn Hang are at the Tunnels, while Quivver (aka Skanna, Space Manoeuvers and John Graham to his mum), plays The Shack.
Dougie Maclean is just down the road from his house at Perth Concert Hall, while in not dissimilar vein, Nick Harper is at Lodge at Lochside in Dundee, and not too far from either (geographically, not musically), Static Union play at Perth Twa Tams.

In the big cities, Bossy Love are at Edinburgh Assembly Rooms, revitalised punks The Fakes are at the Wee Red Bar and in Glasgow, Martin Stephenson and full band The Daintees are at Òran Mór, while Cud play Mono with Miss The Occupier in support.

Finally, to Sunday – Amy Duncan, Hailey Beavis, Suky Goodfellow and Ana Hine are at Clarks on Lindsay Street in Dundee, while Welsh multi-genre rockers Skindred are in Aberdeen, at Unit 51.
