Is that the rain on? We’ll be keeping everything crossed for those hardy souls at the various open-air shows this week.

And we’ll hope that (Sir) Tom Jones is over his recent illness, as we’d not want him catching a cold at Princes Street Gardens, on a Monday night too.

Keeping nice and toasty – sweaty even, we assume – NJ metal veterans Danzig are in Glasgow, at the Barrowland.

Another venture into the open air for music fans on Tuesday, as the sold-out Fleet Foxes are in Glasgow to play Kelvingrove Bandstand

On Wednesday it’s the same deal, but this time, Jamaican legend Jimmy Cliff, who will hopefully bring a bit of the Reggae Sunsplash vibe to the West End.
If that’s all a bit too chilled for you, Deerhoof can still bust a few moves, and they’re also in Glasgow, at Stereo.

Cheesey 80s rock ahoy – well, we assume. For the uninitiated, Graham Bonnet was once singer in Rainbow (Richie Blackmore’s band, not the one Zippy and Bungle formed after Jeremy was sacked). Anyway, ‘Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll’ at The Assembly in Aberdeen.

It must be the festival, as Leith Theatre gets a run of shows, with King Creosote there on Thursday night. In the nearby city of Edinburgh, Amanda Palmer plays the first of two nights at The Queen’s Hall.
Just as angsty are punk veterans Slaughter And The Dogs, at Audio in Glasgow, while somewhat less fun, Van Morrison plays the Kelvingrove Bandstand.

Leith Theatre throws its doors open on Thursday too, for Django Django, C Duncan, and TBFKA Happy Meals i.e. Free Love.

Friday, injunctions and arrests permitting, Pussy Riot are listed as playing Summerhall in Edinburgh but given the fact that the last time they appeared in public was when they were getting re-arrested following their jail spell after their World Cup Final pitch invasion, I’d definitely check this one before traveling.

And in’t Borders, the Stowed Out Festival takes place in, yes, Stow. You might need a map, and you might decide to stay over – it’s three days long, but does feature The Spook School, Paper Rifles, Paws, Bossy Love, Tide Lines and Wuh-Oh.

At Kelvingrove on Friday, it’s The Fratellis plus Blood Red Shoes, while in George Square and part of the athletics thing, Orbital.
Not sure of the timings, but maybe the chance of a wee after-party-cum-rave, as Auntie Flo plays Berkeley Suite on the same evening

On Saturday, Kathryn Joseph launches her new album in Dundee, at Assai Records, while weirdly, Idris Elba (yes, that one) is down to play (records?) at Groove Loch Ness along with Hannah Wants and Ben Nicky. Me neither.

Following her Usher Hall outdoor light and magic show at the weekend, Anna Meredith joins with Southbank Sinfonia, at the Leith Theatre.

In Linlithgow, it’s Party at the Palace 2018 with James, plus Hooky and the Boys, and Col. Mustard and the Dijon 5 among others (the ‘others’ including Texas, Imelda May and Cast).

Also on Saturday, in Glasgow, Adam Stafford is sarf of the water, at the Glad Café, and noisy local brutes Shredd play Glasgow’s The Hug and Pint.

Finally, Apache Darling make the long schlep to Inverness, for a Sunday night show at Mad Hatters.
