With it being holiday season you get Monday night off – so charge your batteries and your glasses in preparation for a busy week across the country.

On Tuesday 15th The Hazey Janes visit Edinburgh for a show at Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, along with poet Liz Lochhead, with a show based around poem ‘The Optimistic Sound’ that Lochhead composed in memory of her friend Michael Marra. Yes, it’s the Festival.
Meanwhile, in Glasgow, Flaming Lips are at Glasgow Barroowland

On Wednesday, ideal Fringe fodder, as Bwani Junction are at the Liquid Room, doubtless revisiting ‘Graceland’.

Thursday 17th sees Summerhall pull another top show out of the bag – Texan alt.rock legends Lift To Experience.

Also in the capital on Thursday, at the Playhouse, ‘Music of the Incredible String Band’ – including founder member Mike Heron and legendary bassist Danny Thompson plus guests including Alasdair Roberts, Robyn Hitchcock, Barbara Dickson, Green Gartside, Karine Polwart and Withered Hand.

Same night but in darkest Fife, The Filthy Tongues are in Dunfermline, at PJ Mollys.

The listings start to get mighty crowded come Friday. Miracle Glass Co. are at the Greenside in Leslie, while at Wick Assembly Rooms, it’s Neon Waltz.
In Glasgow, at the ABC2, 80s indie stars Cud, supported by local heroes Miss The Occupier.
And also kicking off on Friday, Doune the Rabbit Hole. Not quite in Doune now, the three-day festival is instead at Cardross Estate. Friday evening’s ‘interesting’ lineup includes Liars, Paws, BMX Bandits, BDY_PRTS, plus prog snooker DJ Steve Davis, while over the weekend the likes of Jenny Hval, Meursault, Roddy Woomble, Apostille, Aberfeldy, Vegan Leather, Spinning Coin and Babe can also be experienced in an open-air and hopefully warm and dry arena.

To the north and east, in Dundee, London rockers Wolf Alice are at Fat Sam’s.

They’re also in Aberdeen the following night, at the Garage.

On Saturday, alt.folk pioneer Lach embraces the Festival at Edinburgh’s Bedlam Theatre, while fresh from his time paying tribute to the Incredible String Band, Withered Hand is at Summerhall. And Sacre Noir play a festival gig at Sips Popup Bar.
