Sometimes, despite them being on a Monday night, Monday night gigs are just meant to be. So once I’m finished typing here, it’s off to Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms, where Giant Sand are reliving their 1985 album ‘Valley of Rain’.

And in Aberdeen, Future Islands are at the Beach Ballroom. No, come back! They have unexpectedly engaged Bristol’s finest (and sweariest), Idles, for the duration of their Scottish tour. So get there early if you’re going.

On Tuesday, The Beat – the Dave Wakeling flavour – play P.J. Molloy’s in Dunfermline, while similarly (i.e. without the Wu-Tang Clan) Ghostface Killah is in Glasgow, at The Art School.

Public Image Ltd. are in Glasgow on Wednesday, at the O2 ABC, playing tunes and flogging dairy products, Well, we assume there’ll be tunes (last time we saw Mr Lydon he was trying to sell usa £200 book, so who can say for sure?)

And Idles, with that Future Islands lot in tow, are at Inverness Ironworks on WEdnesday

The unlikely pairing then takes in the even unlikelier setting of Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Thursday, while in perfectly nice but comparatively less salubrious surroundings, The Wave Pictures are at Sneaky Pete’s.

Friday night sees Theatre of Hate play The Assembly in Aberdeen and 🙁 (remember them?) – Colonopenbracket to give them their Sunday name – are at The Tunnels.

On Friday in Inverness, The Little Kicks are at Mad Hatters while the Future Islands / Idles roadshow pulls up in Greenock – a town which mandatorily has the words ‘of all places’ appended to any gig guide entry. That’s at the Town Hall (see above).

Sadly not taking a similar approach to far-flung places, David Byrne isn’t playing Dumbarton (if he did I’m sure he’d at least hold them to a draw) – but instead is in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.
As that show is long sold out (bitter, us?) you can insted catch The Wave Pictures at the CCA.
Or Fast Camels at the Clutha Vaults (er, or McChuill’s),
Or Catholic Action at the Mackintosh Church.

ON Saturday 16th, Acid Cannibals – at least 50% Cosmic Dead, in case you weren’t paying attention last time we mentioned it – play Leith Depot, which is almost in Edinburgh.

In Kirkcaldy, at the Adam Smith Theatre, the talented and tolerant Siobhan Wilson takes a break from her stint with Moffat and Hubbert for a solo show.

And also on Saturday, a one day fgestivalm Haddfest , which is, yes, in Haddington, and yes (YES!) features Dropkick, as well as The Wynntown Marshals.

Finally, the outdoor music season continues as The Little Kicks will be in Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen… it’s possible they’re just having a kickabout, but more likely there’s some sort of festival afoot. Have a swatch while you’re walking the dog.

And similarly – well, not that similarly – The Skids are at a hopefully weather-free Kelvingrove Bandstand in Glasgow.
