A busy midweek, which cam only lead to a mad weekend. On Wednesday, Faith Eliott will give her album ‘Impossible Bodies’ a welcome airing, at Leith Depot, while there’s music and comics – the hand-drawn type – as Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts visit Edinburgh’s Summerhall,
In Stirling, acclaimed harpist Catrin Finch plus Senegalese kora player and drummer Seckou Keita are at Stirling’s Tolbooth, and on Glasgow’s rockin’ southside, nu-folk musician Zoe Bestel plays the Glad Café.
On Thursday, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita visit The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, and Jesse Malin is at King Tuts in Glasgow, and Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts have The Raptors as special guests for their Dundee show at Beat Generator.
On Friday, festival season, if not summer, comes to Perthshire, where Solas Festival kicks off.
Kobi Onyame, Solareye, Honeyblood (Stina solo), Beerjacket, Martha Ffion, Kapil Seshasayee and Tinderbox Orchestra are among the musical acts on the bill.
Elsewhere, and largely indoors, Mark Morriss out of Britpoppers The Bluetones is at Aberdeen’s Cafe Drummond, Optimo’s JG Wilkes has a set (we assume) at the Greenside Hotel in Leslie, Finch & Keita venture north to the Macphail Centre & Theatre in Ullapool, while in Edinburgh, two days of Southern Exposure at Summerhall.
On Friday it’s Pictish Trail, Bossy Love and Carla J. Easton who headline, while the Saturday all-dayer has Rev Magnetic, Shhe, Savage Mansion, Callum easter, Be Charlotte, and Mersault launching new album ‘Crow Hill’.
Elsewhere on Saturday… in Fife, Aberdour’s Woodside Hotel entertains Blue Rose Code (and the plan will be that they in turn entertain you). Also a bit off the beaten track, Alasdair Roberts has a gig at the Braemar Gallery (says Ballater here but I’m sure everyone knows where Braemar is?)
Closer to civilisation, Nick Cave is at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, and The Moon Kids visit P.J. Molloy’s in Dunfermline.
And, Stereolab return, with a sold-out show at SWG3 Galvanizers in Glasgow, and at Aberdeen’s Cellar, the Pleasure Heads.
In Glasgow, ambient industrial Geordies Zoviet France are at Stereo / the Old Hairdressers (must be an either/or)
Finally, on Sunday, and Solas aside it’s a bit of a quiet day for gigs… hence us directing you to Lindisfarne, at Perth’s Inchyra Arts Club.
