This week’s must-see gig is, well, more than a gig. In Glasgow on Saturday 7th, at the QM Union, it’s a free entry show in support of the Common Ground, whose mission is to Transform the Economy to Save the Planet.

Headliners are The Fratellis along a stripped-back Twilight Sad, while others aiding the cause include Col.Mustard, Kitti, Sacred Paws, Willie Campbell and Kapil Seshayee aka The Dalmar Chorus, Nova Scotia and Starry Skies. And, of course, plenty of discussion and activism of a political and environmental nature. As we say, it’s free, but you’ll have to register in advance, at Commongroundfest.org

Rolling back and looking at the entire week… on Tuesday 2nd November, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark play Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, while in Glasgow, Warmduscher are at the QMU, while The Burning Hell visit the southside for a set at The Glad Café, and in town, Haiku Salut have a gig at The Blue Arrow.

Slim pickings for Aberdonian music fans this week, though Engelbert Humperdinck is at the Music Hall on Wednesday 3rd.

In Edinburgh, Suede, plus a bonus support in Nadine Shah, are at the Usher Hall, while Thursday’s highlight may well be Daytime TV, at the Liquid Rooms.

On Friday the 5th November, Aberdeen get Dr. Hook at the Music Hall, confirming what we were saying earlier, while in Inverness, at Ironworks, it’s Hunter & The Bear plus Daytime TV, while in Glasgow, Rev Magnetic play Nice n’ Sleazy.

On Saturday 6th, Admiral Fallow launch new album ‘The Idea Of You’ at Summerhall, and Rachel Taylor aka Self Esteem, is at The Bongo Club, while Katherine Aly has a show at Sneaky Pete’s

And things are looking up in Aberdeen as Public Service Broadcasting play the Music Hall, while in Paisley, The Chosen Lonely are at Callum’s Cavern.

Finally, on Sunday 7th, the Average White Band are at Aberdeen Music Hall, and in Dundee, MC Salum previews forthcoming album ‘Crocodile DD’ with a show at The Hunter S. Thompson.

And Mogwai play Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Self Esteem is at Audio, Public Service Broadcasting play the Barrowland, and Post Coal Prom Queen have a set at the Landing Hub.
