Has Kylie been at Edinburgh Castle all week?
I’m convinced we recommended you go see the Aussie pixie of pop last week as well. Say hello to Nick if you see him.

Alternatively, also in Reekie, Brighton psych-proggers The Physics House Band are at Sneaky Pete’s.

And we’re getting deja vu here, again… Rod Stewart plays a show described as “Outdoors at AECC Arena, Aberdeen”, which is kind of self-explanatory… yup, the original was canceled due to the weather. Call us psychic…

Rather more sensible is to play your gigs indoors. Multi-national London-based post-punkers Ghum are at the Hug and Pint in Glasgow on Tuesday, and a darkened basement is, frankly, much more suited to their music than bright sunshine.

On Wednesday, Ben Folds (without his Five?) plays Perth Theatre, and it’s quite the coup for Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre as Garbage have a show there. Shame Ms Manson wasn’t around the other week, what with the Goodbye Mr McKenzie anniversary shows…

Also on Wednesday, Ghum play Henry’s Cellar Bar in Edinburgh – a Gentle Invasion show, meaning that this eagleowl-affiliated promoter will guarantee some good other acts on the bill. You’d think.

In Glasgow, and largely listed because there’s nothing better to hand, dreadlocked guitar virtuoso Newton Faulkner plays the Old Fruitmarket.

On Thursday, Alasdair Roberts brings his death ballads (most likely) to the Glad Café, in Glasgow’s leafy southside,

The Skids play a rare show in Greenock on Friday night – at The Albany, while in Glasgow, Wyclef Jean is at the O2 Academy; Gossip are at SWG3; The Sugarhill Gang play The Classic Grand and Edinburgh act folda are at King Tuts.

And festivals of vastly contrasting… everything – Doune the Rabbit Hole, at
Cardross Estate in Stirlingshire kicks off three days of The Damned, Blanck Mass, Lee Perry, Sister Sledge, John Grant and Hawkwind.
Meanwhile, at Scone Palace, Rewind also runs from Friday – Sunday, with Bryan Ferry, The Stranglers, Lisa Stansfield, Belinda Carlisle, Hazel O’Connor, Midge Ure, and Leo Sayer. Maybe they’re not quite so dissimilar after all…

Slim pickings for Edinburghers on Friday with just the Cowboy Junkies at the The Queen’s Hall, or Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra at Edinburgh Festival Theatre

And on Friday, but maybe not, in Inverness, Martin Stephenson & the Daintees, plus Springbreak, play Ironworks. And according to our sources, they’re there for three nights in a row. Check local press before traveling…

To Saturday, and The Proclaimers are at Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, with Be Charlotte, for a couple of nights in a row (it seems).
Maybe timings will allow you to then take in The Sugarhill Gang at La Belle Angele, or indeed at The Moon Kids at the Voodoo Rooms (though that seems unlikely to be honest).

In Glasgow, it’s Fabric Bear at King Tut’s or Single By Sunday playing The Garage G2,

Finally, k.d. lang is at the Music Hall in Aberdeen on Sunday night, while the only gig in town – if your ‘town’ is Glasgow – Steve Albini’s favourites, Cheap Trick, at the O2 Academy.
