You now what – we seem to be getting towards the end of summer festival season (ok, Loopallu is still to come, but that’s basically winter)

What this means is that it’s time for Doune The Rabbit Hole this coming weekend. It’s the usual eclectic lineup with Hector Bizerk, The Cosmic Dead, Errors, PAWS, Trembling Bells, The Wave Pictures, RM Hubbert, The One Ensemble, The Telescopes, The Birthday Suit, The Yawns and Adam Stafford the dozen I picked out from the 70 or so on the bill.

The appearance of Jeffrey Lewis will be much awaited by many and anyone either unable to get to Cardross Estate on the day, or wanting to see the cartooning musical legend more than once can also catch him at Kage in Dundee on Tuesday 19th, Wednesday 20th at Aberdeen Moorings, or on Thursday 21st at the Electric Circus in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh’s still awash with shows, but for how long? (Clue: until the end of August). Anyway, another goodie with RM Hubbert at the Queen’s Hall on Wed 20th, with Emma Pollock also on the bill.

On Friday, Grandmaster Flash is at Buskers in Dundee, part of their first birthday party (although, he’s also billed for Glasgow Audio the same date on some websites – best check local press for details…)
Same night, Stanley Brinks is at Sneaky Pete’s – he’s at Doune the Rabbit Hole, with The Wave Pictures, on Saturday

On Sat 23rd, the excellent Taking Chase are at Aberdeen Moorings (with Needleman, who are probably great as well).
Staying up north, The Last Battle travel to the Eagle Bar in Inverness.
Also on Saturday, There Will be Fireworks play Oran Mor, while there’s more music in Edinburgh – Randolph’s Leap are at the Electric Circus while Quiet As a Mouse are at Sneaky Pete’s.
Somewhere in between the two cities, A New International have a hometown show at The Mallard in Cumbernauld.

Finally, as we approach the final week of the (Edinburgh) Festivals,James Yorkston is at the Spiegeltent, which could be anywhere (I think it was on Glasgow Green 2 weeks ago) but is probably in George Square.

Meanwhile, Glasgow’s MILK club comes to Edinburgh for a show at The Electric Circus with PAWS plus local lads Lady North.
