DMS release a new single, entitled ‘Games We Play’.
Available as a Bandcamp download, or to stream, it’s the first new material from the Edinburgh-based five-piece in 2021.
The quintet – John Keenan (vocals), Mikey Robertson (guitar), Euan Mushet (bass) Jen Bain (keys), and Callum Saint (drums) – have recorded their debut, EP ‘Impostor Syndrome‘ late in 2019, before unearthing an unreleased track, ‘Ordinary Strange‘, during lockdown last May.
‘Games We Play’ – “a beautiful soundtrack about an ugly idea” – was written byJohn Keenan and Robertson, and is the first single to come from a series of sessions, hastily-arranged between lockdowns.
The band say of the new track – recorded, mixed and mastered by Mark Morrow Audio: “This is probably the closest we’ll ever come to writing a ‘love’ song but as usual the definition has become a bit warped. It highlights the importance of trust in a relationship and how lots of people take it for granted until it’s too late.
“Our protagonist is only interested in the eventual outcome of ‘the game’ regardless of how many other relationships are destroyed in the process. We reckon most people can relate to either being involved in situations like these or knows someone that’s been through it”.
