Dean Owens releases a new single, ‘Julie’s Moon’.

On Drumfire Records, it’s a charity single with regular backing band The Whisky Hearts – Amy Geddes, Brian McAlpine, Craig Ross, Jim McDermott and Mike McCann – aimed at help ing raise awareness and funds for Marie Curie and their Daffodil Campaign.

Recorded at Slate Room Studio in Pencaitland, the song is a tribute to the singer’s late sister Julie who lost her battle with breast cancer a couple of years ago at the age of 50.

Of the song, Owens said: “This is definitely not a song I ever wanted to write, but sometimes songs come out of the most difficult circumstances. Julie was a huge supporter of me and my music so it feels right to me that she has her own song that can be used to help other cancer sufferers in some small way.”

The track is available via iTunes

Although a download-only release, it can be heard and seen in the video made with Ruth Barrie of Waltzer Films, shot around where the family grew up in Leith.
