It’s festival season – but largely indoors as Edinburgh steps up to entertain its influx of comedy-seeking visitors with music.

Firstly, on Monday, it’s the return of Camera Obscura – making their comeback at St Luke’s in Glasgow, and Carla J Easton is support too.

The impressive list of acts playing at Kelvingrove Bandstand continues on Tuesday – in the fresh air on Tuesday, The National.

We don’t usually plug shows outwith Scotland, but what the hell, you might be heading to London on Tuesday, If so, Alastair White – formerly of Edinburgh band White Heath – soundtracks a show at The Place – an opera that combines fashion, dance and theatre and which is about an A.I. called EDINBURGH who wishes to become a city. It’s part of Tete-a-Tete: The Opera Festival.

In Edinburgh, US punk veterans Dwarves play Bannerman’s, and somewhat unexpectedly, Kiefer Sutherland (yes, that one, it’s country-ish material in case you were planning on going along and gawping) is at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen.

On Wednesday, Siobhan Wilson is back from her travels (supporting the Proclaimers in Canada a couple of months back) for her big festival show, at Edinburgh’s Summerhall.

If you have some money, Thursday sees Echo & The Bunny men visit Kelvingrove Bandstand, so here’s hoping it’s nice and sunny… while Edinburgh gets Emma Pollock, Summerhall having a similarly impressive string of shows this week.
And Bronston – still pushing single ‘Burnt Snakes’ I’d imagine – have A Burial At Sea and Coldbones joining them at Henry’s Cellar Bar,
In Dundee, a Daintees-less Martin Stephenson plays Clark’s on Lindsay Street

We often choose bands on the basis of their name, so how could Morass of Molasses not be worth a watch? Find out at Bannerman’s in Edinburgh on Friday.

In Aberdeen, Little Love and the Friendly Vibes play The Cellar, and in Glasgow, Bloc Party are at Kelvingrove Bandstand; Luke La Volpe play King Tuts as part of the Summer Nights series of gigs, and The Fauves are at The Blue Arrow.

Rachel Sermanni‘s the latest in Summerhall’s impressive gig list, on Saturday, while Little Love and the Friendly Vibes continue their Highland odyssey – they’re at The Tooth & Claw in Inverness.
Hue and Cry are at Kelvingrove Bandstand and Amphitheatre, Man of Moon play King Tuts, and Kathryn Joseph is at Paisley Arts Centre. And in Linlithgow, Party at the Palace has among others, The Charlatans, KT Tunstall and Midge Ure.

The Sunday leg of the Linlithgow fest includes Deacon Blue and Wet Wet Wet, Bear’s Den are at the Sound Archive in Kirkwall (we’d love to think there’s a similar show by a band called Kirkwall in Bearsden, but we’ve checked and sadly no).

Finally, to Sunday – Scots supergroup Chvrches – featuring former members of Aereogramme, Blue Sky Archive and Julia Nineteen – are at the bandstand in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens, Anna Calvi plays Leith Theatre, and Nick Harper – yes, Roy’s son – is at The Jazz Bar.
