Callum Easter releases a new single, ‘Pop Goes The Weasel’, on Moshi Moshi.

It follows up the Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter’s debut long-player, ‘Here Or Nowhere’, released last spring on Pictish Trail’s Eigg-based Lost Map label.

The new track – which originally appeared on 2017’s mini-album ‘Delete Forever’ – is taken from his forthcoming debut album ‘Green Door Sessions‘, due for release on 21st August.

The accordion features heavily on the new track, although Easter says: “It’s not an instrument I considered playing until I picked one up in a charity shop.”

At that time Easter was playing in and around Edinburgh, and realised he wanted an instrument that would allow him to engage more with the audience. “I wanted to face the crowd and sing,” he says. “The spectacle appealed too, it’s pretty physical singing and playing whilst on your feet. I think people enjoy seeing you struggle and take chances.”

The new album will feature re-recorded tracks from ‘Here or Nowhere’ as well as his first two EPs – 2016’s ‘Get Don’t Want’, and ‘Delete Forever’, originally released through Soulpunk Records, run by Young Fathers’ former producer/manager Tim Brinkhurst (AKA Tim London)

“The premise was to record the versions of the songs I’d been performing live using mainly accordion, drum machine and drone,” he says. “One take, no overdubs, straight to tape. All done in Glasgow’s Green Door Studios.”
