Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos and Fran Healy out of Travis are have joined with a gaggle of international popsters to form “indie supergroup” BNQT.
Conceived / led by Midlake’s Eric Pulido, the octet’s debut album ‘Volume 1’ has been released on the Bella Union label.
The ten tunes feature five vocalists – Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, plus Pulido, Kapranos and Healy – all of whom have written and sung two tracks each, with backing from other Midlake members McKenzie Smith (drums), Joey McClellan (guitar) and Jesse Chandler (keys).
The album was recorded and produced largely at Midlake’s studio in Denton, Texas.
Pulido got the idea for BNQT (pronounced “Banquet”) while touring Midlake’s 2013 release, “Antiphon” as he decided to approach bands he’d worked with or met while on tour.
With the artists involved situated across the world, some of the recordings were put together over the internet, with Pulido pulling the components together to result in ‘Volume 1’, with its track listing reading thus:
1. Restart
2. Unlikely Force
3. 100 Million Miles
4. Mind Of A Man
5. Hey Banana
6. Real Love
7. Failing at Feeling
8. L.A. On My Mind
9. Tara
10. Fighting The World
