Blanck Mass releases a new album, ‘In Ferneaux’, on the Sacred Bones label.

Benjamin John Power’s follow-up to 2019’s album ‘Animation Violence Mild’ utilises a decade’s worth of field recordings for two long-form works – ‘Phase I’ and ‘Phase II’ – which, he says, explore “pain in motion, building audio-spatial chambers of experience and memory.”

Still one half of half of Fuck Buttons alongside Andrew Hung, the now Edinburgh-based musician also tells of an encounter with a “prophetic figure” on the streets of San Francisco, which presented the question of “how to handle the misery on the way to the blessing.”

Power has been working on his Blanck Mass ‘side project’ since 2011, and will be best-known to many as having composed ‘Sundowner’ – from the self-titled Blanck Mass debut – which in 2012 was covered by the London Symphony Orchestra as part of the London Olympics Opening Ceremony. Fuck Button tracks ‘Surf Solar’ and ‘Olympians’ also featured during the Danny Boyle-directed event.
