Auld Spells release two new songs – a double-A-side single by any other name – ‘I Want You Back’ b/w ‘Another Way’.

Available to download or stream, it’s the next in a string of tracks from the Edinburgh-based act, following ‘That’s The Way It Goes‘ and before that, January’s ‘I Hope‘.

The band were formed in 2019 by Tommy Danbury – previously of LA-based acts Lower Heaven and Magic Mirror – with Peter Wilson (of the band Rome), Rob Spellsman, and Murray and Sandy Raeburn (of the Raeburn Brothers).

Danbury is joined on ‘I Want You Back’ by vocalist Michelle Vidal (Spindrift, Linda Perhacs, Fur Traders), who recorded her parts in Paris. They describe the tune, recorded in Edinburgh, as being Motown / Wall of Sound-inspired, and “a tale of a guy caught trying to cheat, who gets cheated.”

B-side ‘Another Way’ is “a 60s British R&B-influenced story about the end of a toxic relationship, told over a Northern Soul waltz beat.”
