Article 58 re-release their 1981 single, ‘Event To Come’.

The track – the Hamilton band’s only release – was initially put out 40 years ago on Rational Records – the imprint run by Josef K manager Allan Campbell.

Produced by Alan Horne and Malcolm Ross, the song was recorded by John McLarty in Emblem Sounds studio in Strathaven.

The track received airplay from Radio One’s John Peel at the time as well as receiving favourable reviews from Dave McCullough in Sounds as well as in the NME and Melody Maker.

“I always remember how exciting it was for us as teenagers to hear the song on Peel,” recalls the band’s Douglas Macintyre, who now runs his own label. “That feeling still drives me re Creeping Bent,” he says.

The quartet – also comprising Gerri McLaughlin on vocals, Ewan MacLennan on bass, and drummer Stephen Lironi, who would later join Altered Images – would only release this single before splitting up.

The band’s short-lived career saw them support various acts, particularly at Valentino’s in Edinburgh, such as Scars, Bauhaus, A Certain Ratio, Restricted Code, Delmontes, and toured England with Josef K when they were promoting their album on Postcard, ‘The Only Fun In Town’.

The reissued track is exclusively available as a free download as part of Creeping Bent’s Patreon site, £5 per month – www.patreon.com/creepingbent.
