Arab Strap have announced the release of their first new material in 15 years.
New single ‘The Turning Of Our Bones’ – available via Mogwai’s Rock Action label – is available to download now, with a 7″ single, with b-side ‘The Jumper’, to come in October.
The duo – Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton – teased their comeback with a horror movie-style poster stating that they were “back from the grave and ready to rave”.
And ‘The Turning Of Our Bones’ stays with that theme – the song is “an incantation, a voodoo spell to raise the dead,” the pair said.
“Inspired by the Famadihana ritual of the Malagasy people of Madagascar, in which they dance with the corpses of loved ones; it’s all about resurrection and shagging,” they add.
Arab Strap have reunited and split several times over the years, initially parting ways in 2006, 10 years after the band formed.
The band then reformed in 2011 for a one-off gig to celebrate the 20th birthday of Glasgow venue Nice ‘n Sleazy, before playing a series of festival sets in 2016 coinciding with a Miaoux Miaoux remix of debut single ‘The First Big Weekend’.
