Ally Kerr releases an album, ‘Upgrade Me’.
The 11-track release is available via the usual digital outlets as well as via Bandcamp on CD.
Critically-acclaimed in his home country, Kerr’s main success has in fact come further afield – debut album ‘Calling Out To You’ (produced by The Pearlfishers’ David Scott and Duglas T. Stewart out of BMX Bandits) being included in a major Japanese music magazine’s list of the “Top 20 Albums Ever To Come Out Of Scotland”. (A track also appeared on an is this music? magazine cover CD around that time, in case Scottish readers were wondering why the name sounded familiar).
An invite to tour Japan shortly followed and ‘The Sore Feet Song’ was subsequently used as the theme tune to a major Japanese TV animation (Mushi-shi), broadcast in countries across the world and most recently made more widely-available on Netflix.
Following an EP release with Spanish label Elefant Records (known for working with Camera Obscura as well as Lampchop) Kerr released sophomore long-player ‘Off The Radar’, before teaming up with producer Biff Smith (frontman and writer with The Starlets / A New International)for 2013’s ‘Viva Melodia’
With no Scottish gigs planned, Kerr plans to spend this year and next playing live shows in Europe and Asia – including a second major headline tour of China in May 2019, following two successful festival appearances in Shanghai and Beijing in 2013 and a headline tour in 2015.
