A New International release a new album, ‘The Dark Carnival’, on CD as well as download.
The 17-song opus was initially created as part of a theatre show of the same name, where the band’s six members starred as the “house band in hell” in the Vanishing Point theatre company’s production.
The soundtrack features the songs from the stageshow, though not in the order they were performed live, as the collection stands as an album in its own right, the band’s first long-player since their debut ‘Come To The Fabulon’ – although the group output three albums as their previous incarnation as The Starlets.
The Dark Carnival (theatre version) was a co-production by Vanishing Point and Citizens Theatre, in association with Dundee Rep Ensemble, which played out at Glasgow’s Tramway, the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, and Dundee Rep Theatre.
The band – Biff Smith, Caroline Evens, Craig Laurie, Mark McSwiggan, Steph McGourty and Jo Shaw – formed part of the cast for the show with frontman Smith taking on an acting role as well as fronting the band.
Released 26th April, the album release will be celebrated with a special live launch at Glasgow University Union Debating Chamber (GUU) on the same day.
