Jimmy Somerville and Fatherson were among the diverse acts who took home trophies at the 16th Annual Scottish Music Awards.

Taking place at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket on Saturday November 29th, the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland charity bash saw the former Bronski Beat and Communards vocalist Jimmy Somerville receive a ‘Special Recognition Award’ before performing an a cappella version of ‘Smalltown Boy’.

Fatherson were presented with the XFM & Hard Rock Café ‘Rising Stars’ award by radio’s Jim Gellatly, while the ‘Sir Reo Stakis Living Legend Award’ went to David Bowie and Pink Floyd session musician Dr. Steve Foreman, who was recently the subject of an extradition attempt by the UK Government.

Other award recipients included Julie Fowlis (Creative Scotland Best Traditional Music Award), The La Fontaines (Creative Scotland Big Apple Award) and Prides who picked up the Jack Daniels Best Breakthrough Artist.

Prince won a public vote for SSE Hydro Act of the Year Award (Peter Gabriel would have got mine if I’d known about it) and Still Game won the Ticketmaster Hottest Ticket Award (actually, I might have voted for that if it had actually been a MUSIC EVENT).

Idlewild received the King Tuts Songwriting Award and trailed their forthcoming album ‘Everything Ever Written’.
