Cumbernauld is to get a brand new music venue – Submarine.
The new venture involves a 600 capacity live music venue and night club which opens on October 26.
The town, with a population of over 50,000, is the largest in the North Lanarkshire area, but its live music can be limited, despite some famous names coming from the area, including members of Aereogramme, The Starlets, The Fratellis, and Craig Ferguson (a member of The Dreamboys with Peter Capaldi before moving onto a career in comedy).
The venue’s opening show features local heroes Dead Man Fall – best known for their all-star video that appeared on Ferguson’s US chatshow.
Also lined up to play in the opening months are Goodbye Mr Mackenzie on Saturday, December 14, and before that The Skababs on November 22. The calendar is currently filled with a slew of tribute acts (including the admittedly excellent We Are Not Devo and the Joy Division covers act Komakino), but the management are actively looking for acts to play the venue.
